For this case study I will be looking into Discord. While the product is available to use as a mobile, desktop, and web app, it better follows a web app, in needing an internet connection to utilize its features. The application serves to build communities, but requires an account to use, suggesting the target audience age is at least within the teenage to young adult range with interests toward a recreational activity, such as video games or a specific one.
For example, YouTube channels may benefit in creating Discord communities, for fans to join in; the gain obtained in this app is in organizing group channels, or chats, that focus on a particular topic within the whole group, enabling users to focus their conversations of said topic, and avoiding loss of information, depending on the group's size. The pain alleviated in this app is in the moderation tools bestowed upon specific member(s) that may help manage a safer environment within the community.
Discord proposition a means for people to build communities for like-minded individuals or fans, offering multiple chats to better organize topics, while providing the features needed to manage a safer environment than other messenger-based applications.
